Blooming Suites

Tier Mid-Range
Type Hotel

Lake Naivasha is a unique freshwater ecosystem in Kenya's Great Rift Valley, renowned for its substantial hippopotamus population and remarkable avian diversity.

Blooming Suites commands a position on the lake's southern shore, affording its guest accommodation and central areas uninterrupted views across the water.

Location and Lake Access at Blooming Suites

Blooming Suites sits within the official boundaries of Lake Naivasha National Park, approximately a two-hour drive northwest of Nairobi. This position provides an immersive natural setting.

The lodge's primary logistical advantage is its private jetty, which facilitates direct lake access for boat safaris and removes the need for external transfers for water-based activities. A full perimeter fence secures the property, a crucial feature that ensures guest safety by preventing larger wildlife from entering the main grounds.

Stone-Built Suites at Blooming Suites

The property features 25 detached and semi-detached units constructed from local stone and brick with tiled roofing. This solid construction provides excellent insulation from the midday heat and a sense of permanence not found in tented camps. The lodge's thoughtful layout ensures all accommodation is oriented towards the lake, maximising the views.

Suite Design and Amenities

Each suite is notably spacious, designed to cater for couples or small families. The interior is clean-lined and practical, with tiled floors and large sliding glass doors that open onto a private balcony.

These balconies are a key feature, furnished with a table and chairs and offering a private vantage point over Lake Naivasha. The en-suite bathrooms are equipped with modern fixtures, including walk-in showers.

  • King-size or twin bed configuration
  • Private furnished balcony with lake view
  • En-suite bathroom with walk-in shower
  • In-room Wi-Fi access
  • Writing desk and chair
  • Secure safe for valuables

Lakeside Dining and Social Spaces

The main lodge building serves as the central social hub. It houses the primary restaurant, a lounge area, and a bar. The structure is open-plan, with large windows and an expansive terrace to maximise views of the lake and the surrounding acacia woodland.

Dining is typically a buffet-style affair for breakfast and lunch. An à la carte menu is offered for the evening meal, focusing on international cuisine prepared with locally sourced ingredients.

Boat Safaris and Local Excursions from Blooming Suites

The signature activity offered directly from the lodge is the boat safari on Lake Naivasha. These excursions provide excellent opportunities for observing some of the area's over 400 bird species, including African fish eagles and great cormorants, as well as resident hippopotamus pods at a safe distance.

While the fenced nature of the property precludes walking safaris directly from the grounds, the reception can organise excursions to nearby Crescent Island. Here, guided walks amongst non-predatory plains game such as giraffe, zebra, and wildebeest are possible. The lodge does not have a dedicated children's club, but the swimming pool and the gentle nature of boat safaris make it suitable for families.

Lodge Operations and Practical Details

Lodge operations are well-managed and self-sufficient. The property is connected to mains power, supplemented by a solar system and backup generators to ensure a consistent 24-hour supply.

Due to the proximity to the lake, mosquitoes can be a concern around dawn and dusk. The lodge mitigates this by providing mosquito nets in all suites and using repellent devices in communal areas. Guests are advised to take standard personal precautions.
